Please, help. I got headphones with a microphone but now the mic isn't working any more?

I've recently gotten headphones with a microphone built in. The brand is "ROXY" and were only 10 bucks. I instantly plugged them into my iPod and they started working. But I've unplugged them and the re-plugged them in minutes later. My iPod nor laptop recognizes the mic, although the sound comes through loud and crystal clear. I'm kinda disappointed. Please help me fix them! :)
